Our Favorite Bridal Cakes

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Now that we’ve shown you a few wedding cake blunders, we’ll switch it up a little. We did some searching, and we found some amazing wedding cakes that we had to share with you.

This is one of our favorite cakes from one of our own brides, Kim. Read about her here: Wedding Recap – Kim and Buck. The cake was made by Cakes by Ms. Peggy, and the photo was taken by Studio J.

While surfing the endless pictures of unique wedding cakes, we came across this wonderful creation:

Amazing and tastefully done, yes? I love the coffee cups on the top tier with the steam lines.

Another cake we fell in love with was this one:

The cake looks very clean and the lines are sharp and defined. It’s not overrun with flowers. Sometimes simplicity is best!

We can’t remember where we found this next cake, but it has to be shared. If you know who the baker is, or even the photographer, let us know and we’ll update the information. We want to give everyone credit for their work!

Red and White Wedding Cake

The red design features flowers, birds, rabbits, squirrels, horses, and I think I see some dragonflies and butterflies as well. Keep looking and let us know if you see anything else we missed!

Now for a change of pace. Brides are wanting cupcakes and small cakes for wedding favors, and they even replace the actual wedding cake with the cupcakes! We can’t remember where we found this photo either, so let us know if you know the baker. The photographer looks to be Billy Winters.

Miniature Wedding Cakes

And last, but not least, one of our absolute fabulously favorite wedding cakes from one of our brides:

The cake was done by  Cory Lewis of Cory Lewis Cakes, and the photo was taken by Ramblin’ Rose Photography. Gor-Geous!

It’s Cake Week!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

According to TheKnot.com,  June 22 – 28th is Cake Week!  Who doesn’t like cake?! I mean, that is one of the best parts of this job: eating cake.  In celebration of cake week, we will be posting something about cakes every day.

What better way to kick off the week than to get it goin’ by laughing out loud. At Southern Event Planners, we like to laugh. Let’s face it, without laughter, life is just stressful.

One of our favorite blogs is Cake Wrecks. The name says it all. This crazy blog showcases the grammatical messes, misspellings, and the downright weird. Lucky for us, they feature wedding cakes too!

I have spent hours reading the Cake Wreck’s posts, and my mind goes from “Aww those poor clients!” to “Oh. My. Goodness. I can’t believe these cake people get PAID to do cakes like that!”

Example Number 1:

cakewrecksfishcake

Cake Wreckporter Karin submitted this wedding cake. I’m not sure if it was her cake or not, but if you can’t tell, those are little fish made out of what I assume to be fondant or gum paste. Mind you, it’s not just one decorative, elaborate fish – oh, no - it’s hundreds of floppy fondant fish. Now, I’m sure there’s a story behind this idea, but…it looks a little gruesome and well, icky to me. I love how the figures of the bride and groom are proudly displayed on the mountain of fish.

And if you want to have words on your wedding cake, PLEASE think again:

Yes. It’s real. And yes. It says “weeding.” Maybe they met while doing yard work? No? I tried…

So go check out Cake Wrecksand see what you can find. They update daily, and there never seems to be a shortage of Cake “Uh-Oh’s.”
