Gifts for the Other Special Man in Your Life!

It has often been said that all the groom has to do is show up the day of the wedding, that doesn’t seem to be so true these days as grooms are often a big part of the planning process.  However, there is another man that makes the entire wedding possible- remember him?  Father of the bride!  Even though he may not have much to do with the planning, it is most often your father that pays for most,  if not all, of the wedding.  Here are some great ways to let him know he was the first man in your life and is still very important to you.

What do you think?  How will you let your Dad know he is appreciated and loved?

Little Changes, Mass Confusion

As a bride, you’re constantly looking and researching ideas for your wedding. As a vendor, we love the research! It helps us understand what you want.

Wires can get crossed and time is wasted when small details are constantly added, deleted, or changed. Example:

Email 1: I want to change the table cloth from sage to chocolate.

Phone call 1: I changed the table cloth, but I don’t like it anymore. I don’t know what color they need to be yet.

Email 2: I want sparklers for my grand exit.

Email 3: Can we change the soup to the tomato? Oh and the table cloths need to go back to sage instead of chocolate.

Etc…

Notice that the new tablecloth color was never mentioned. The last update on that was “I’ll keep you updated.” Keep the appropriate vendors in the loop. When you send out tiny updates, you forget what you sent to who.

Once the initial deposit and contract are submitted, your date is locked in. We’re not going anywhere! You can make changes until the set time mentioned in the contract (usually 2-3 weeks before your wedding). Granted, if you tell your florist that you want a whole new design a month before your wedding, there may be a re-design fee. Always clarify with your vendors!

This suggestion applies to any of your vendors. If you’ve been thinking about the menu, and you send them changes with one or two details at a time, it can get confusing. Set up a meeting or e-mail them with a complete list. Example:

Hi Caterer!
I was looking over the menu with Fiance and here’s what we’ve decided. We both like the XYZ soup, but we’d like it served in coffee cups. The carving station is a great idea, but can we do beef brisket instead? We want a coffee station instead of a punch table because the venue is handling the bar/drinks.
See you soon,
Bride and Groom

The second e-mail is more informative, prompting the caterer to make the changes and send over a revised menu. If you have the little updates and ask for an updated invoice each time, it takes up a lot of time and there are a lot of different versions of your menu/invoice floating around in cyber space.

DIY Ruffle Wreath

Hopefully, you read our post about Door Decorations!  If not, please check it out.  We found so many great inspirations for that posting that we wanted to share one more along with the instructions for making it yourself.  This gorgeous ruffled wreath is made from felt circles!

source:  Vanessa’s Crafty Nest

Supplies:

Foam Wreath

1 yard of felt in desired colors

Straight pins

Scissors

Directions:

1.  Cut circles from your felt.  (This wreath was made using 3″ circles.)

2.  Take one circle and fold it in half and then in half again to form your ruffle.

3.  Stick a straight pin in the felt at the point that is formed at the tip of the ruffle and pin it to the wreath.  Pin remaining circles onto wreath, spacing them next to each other so no foam shows through.

4.  Pin a strip of ribbon to the back to use as a hanger.

Check out this link for photos of the process.  http://vanessascraftynest.blogspot.com/2011/02/diy-tutorial-felt-ruffle-wreath.html

We love the solid color, but wouldn’t this be awesome with two or three different colors?

Happy Planning!

Inspiration: Door Decor

Have you ever wondered how the tradition of placing a wreath on the door began?  Wreaths have been around since the Persian Empire in 500 B.C.  and they were actually worn as headbands or diadems.  Around 700 B.C., wreaths made of laurel leaves were used to crown winners of Olympic Games.  It is not really know when they began to be displayed on doors but they were used in lieu of house numbers and usually made from flowers or plants grown on the property itself.

We have certainly come a long way in door decor today! Door decor is no longer limited to plants or flowers or even doors!  In the wedding world, the doors to the ceremony and reception are often decorated to coordinate with the theme or colors of the wedding or with the Bride and Groom’s initials.

Wedding Wednesday: Wunita and Jason

Classy. Happy. Fun. Three words to describe Wunita on her wedding day. She surrounded herself with laughter, jokes, and love on her wedding day. Her bridesmaids were a ton of fun and were great to get to know throughout the night!

The team at Snap Happy Photography managed to capture the atmosphere of the entire wedding perfectly. Let’s go on to the pictures, shall we?

Wunita and Jason's First Meeting

We love the pictures when a bride and groom see each other for the first time that day. Whether it’s before the ceremony, or right as they start to walk down the aisle, it’s always a favorite moment. This photo was carefully planned, and we had a few people involved making sure they didn’t see each other before it was time.

Wunita and Jason's Shoes

See, don’t let the wedding dress and suit fool you!

Here are a few more images from the night:

Color Trend: Tangerine for 2012

The big color for 2012 is Tangerine according to the color authority, Pantone.  This bright, happy color really makes a statement.  We love it paired with gray or for the really bold; lime green or turquoise!

Cupcake Liners and Coffee Filters, Oh, My!

We just love turning ordinary items into extraordinary decor and there is nothing more mundane than coffee filters! And,it is no surprise with the popularity of cupcakes that there is an abundance of great cupcake liners available.  Why limit these awesome goodies to just cupcakes?  DIY brides and crafters alike are embellishing gifts, making garland and creating flowers out of cupcake liners, coffee filters  and various other media with spectacular results.  Here are a few we really like.

Wedding Wednesday #14: Kim and Rodney

Kim and Rodney had a beautiful wedding at the Pink Palace. Guests were seated outside facing the front of the mansion for the ceremony. Afterwards, cocktails and appetizers were served while dinner was being prepared.

Guests took their seats and watched a great story about how Kim and Rodney met. Dinner was served, the cake was cut, and then the dance floor opened up! Wedding guests had a great time, and the pictures look absolutely amazing!

Kim and Rodney were actually voted “Most Elegant” in last year’s “Say Yes Memphis” publication. Want to read it? Click here!

You Want to Pin That Where?!

Brides, we know you want to recognize special members of your wedding, but please take in to account what they plan on wearing. One simple question can save some hassle on the wedding day: what style of dress are you wearing?

For mothers, hostesses, or honorary attendants, brides typically recognize them with a corsage. It can either be a pin-on corsage, or a wrist corsage. In order to figure out who should get which style, you need to know what type of dress they’re wearing: strapless, spaghetti straps, a shawl, etc.

If they’re wearing a strapless dress, we would advise that you give them a wrist corsage. The weight of the corsage can mess with the dress. The same goes for a spaghetti strapped dress, or a light shawl.

If they’re wearing a structured jacket or dress with sleeves, then a pin-on corsage would be fine. Bring extra pins in case one is forgotten, or you need an additional one to secure the corsage so it won’t wiggle around.

So what will you give to the women in your wedding? A pin-on or a wrist corsage?
